A good day for Akilaria

The two Akilarias in the Portimao Global Ocean Race are in front as Mowgli (with Alex Thompsons brother Dave on board) overtook the Verdier design Desafio Cabo de Hornos (sailed by Chilenians Filippe and Jose) today.

We have no issues with the boat and feel fresh like the first day. Salvador is just 600 miles away and we would love to have a Caipirinha but have to wait for Cape Town. Fernando Noronha arquipelago is even closer and we imagine to kite surf there or to grill fish at the beaches.
David Lefebre (Florian Gonser`s Co Skipper in the Transat Jaques Vabre) showed me photos, stopping during their retour-delivery at Fernando Islands and launching there kite equipment.
Beluga Racer formally Z3, the boat originally owned by Gérald Bibot and co-skippered by Yvon Bereharr in the TJV, heads into his 5th Atlantic crossing by tomorrow when we turn eastwards at the race gate 2 just offshore Recife. Not bad for a boat that is just 17 month old.
We have a daily live telephone interview with the original German boat show in Hamburg (Hanseboot) until next Sunday. This is a very welcome distraction from the microworld-routine. There is an indoor show match race taking place Wednesday this week sponsored by Musto Perfomance where one of the boats is named Beluga Racer.
Two school classes are following our race and send questions by mail; for example how it feels to be first and why the flying fish can fly. The kids often ask more interesting questions as the journalists.
Have a good day!

Hallo Felix und Boris,
ich verfolge täglich mit Begeisterung Eure Superleistung.
Den Rest der Strecke segelt Ihr doch auf einer Pobacke ab!
Liebe Grüsse aus Lübeck von Jürgen
Hi Boris and Felix,
Congratulations on being first through the Gate. Really enjoy getting the English posts every now and then. I’m reviewing the web sites every couple of days to see how your are going. So far - really good. I expect it may get a bit tougher from here on in.
Keep up the good work, I’m sure you are looking forward to Cape Town, some good fresh food and time ashore with Mieke and whoever else can make it there to greet you.
All the best.
Regards ……. Phil & Pauline
