Boris Herrmann navigates “Beluga Racer” to a sensational second place at Transat

The first participation at the North Atlantic crossing „Artemis Transat“, the oldest ocean race in history for solo sailors, the 27th birthday at the day of arrival and as a self-made present becoming a sensational runner-up: Jubilant skipper Boris Herrmann and his 40 feet boat “Beluga Racer” crossed the finish line in Marblehead (USA) near Boston after 17 days, twelve hours, nine minutes and 47 seconds, averaging 6.99 knots boatspeed with the “Beluga Racer”. No one else but the experienced Italian Giovanni Soldini completed the about 4500 kilometres long distance from Plymouth (Great Britain) to the American east coast in less time.

Numerous extreme situations and strenuous moments the young German had to overcome being alone on the high seas, yet after the finish he was in good health and brightly accepted the double congratulations. From Bremen (Germany) specially representatives from team partner Beluga Shipping GmbH travelled to Marblehead to welcome a joyfully surprised Boris Herrmann. Die erste Teilnahme an der Atlantiküberquerung „Artemis Transat“, der ältesten Hochsee-Soloregatta für Einhandsegler, der 27. Geburtstag am Tag der Zielankunft und als selbst gemachtes Geschenk ein sensationeller zweiter Platz: Skipper Boris Herrmann überquerte mit seinem 40 Fuß langen Schiff „Beluga Racer“ nach 17 Tagen, zwölf Stunden, neun Minuten und 47 Sekunden am Mittwoch, 28. Mai 2008, um 21:09 Uhr Ortszeit (3:09 Uhr deutscher Zeit) überglücklich die Ziellinie im US-amerikanischen Marblehead nahe Boston. Seine Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit mit der „Beluga Racer“ betrug 6,99 Knoten. Nur der erfahrene Italiener Giovanni Soldini war über die rund 4500 Kilometer lange Distanz von Plymouth (England) an die amerikanische Ostküste schneller.

Viele Extremsituationen und Kräfte zehrende Momente hatte der junge Deutsche alleine auf dem offenen Meer überstanden, wohlauf und strahlend nahm er nach dem Zieleinlauf die doppelten Gratulationen entgegen. Aus Bremen waren eigens Vertreter des Team Partners Beluga Shipping GmbH angereist, um den freudig überraschten Boris Herrmann in Marblehead in Empfang zu nehmen.
