Logbuch 7. Juni

(by Felix) After the cold front passage we have a tight reach in moderate winds. We expect light winds for the next 24 hours, especially near Felipe’s position. There is a lot of commercial traffic in this area and yesterday Boris could speak to a cruise ship on VHF. Good to know, that they recognized us on their radar from a 7 nm distance and they could see our AIS signal as well. The last days were pretty wet outside due to the waves and fast reaching, which reminded us of the Southern Ocean. Nevertheless the water is a lot warmer here!

Obviously the reds did a better job dealing with the front and shift. I wonder if they sailed with spinnaker or code5 during the strong winds yesterday. 50 Miles is a huge gap but this leg should provide options for gains and losses for all of us. The dramas regarding the race so far always happened in light airs with one boat slowed down dramatically. We will keep an eye on them and wait for chances to turn things around with patience and confidence they taught us during this long race.

    Hallo Boris und Felix,

    viele Gruesse von allen aus Kapstadt! Gestern hatten wir im Royal Cape Yacht Club einen Potugiesischen Abend und es war viel von Euch die Rede. Heute frueh waren wir auf “Diel” segeln und Nathan kam direkt aus der Dusche - hat es sich gespart ins Bett zu gehen.

    Moin,

    na, so retrospektiv betrachtet sieht Euer Haken nach südwesten eher nach einem reparaturbedürftigen Problem aus. War da was? Die 60 nm, die Euch jetzt fehlen stecken z.T. in diesem Haken. Aber der Weg ist noch lang. Macht mal hinne.

    Das mit dem Ausläufer war nix, ist ja ein wenig Distanz aber dennoch sind wir hier in Sorge ….. Auf geht`s….

    Lese gerade auf SA, daß ihr einen Schaden an der Saling habt und euch vom Rennmodus verabschiedet - das ist sehr bedauerlich und wird die ganze “blaue Gemeinde” äußerst betrüben.

    Ich hoffe, ihr seid nicht zu sehr gefrustet und der Mast hält den Rest der Strecke durch.

    Schade.
