Rice or duck

Februar 26, 2009

(by Felix) We found good breeze and with the big kite and full main we going constantly over 11 kn. So we are pretty sure we are going to make it to Jeremy’s birthday on Mowgli party tonight. “Sweet” sailing after three days of Doldrums-conditions. The last night was very dark. No moon and clouds. We were surrounded by thunder and lightning but no wind. I was standing outside, fascinated by that scary atmosphere, when suddenly a whale decided to breathe out some meters away. I stopped breathing for some seconds! Then I grab a torch, but I did not see it. But who else breathes so loudly in the middle of the ocean?

The wind brought our normal life back. We stack all the heavy stuff at the aft. And now we begin writing texts for our website, even in English! After four days of pasta, we will have our first rice meal today. Hey, we are back in our old rhythm. Oh , I forgot, we are invited at Mowgli tonight. So, no rice today, they promised duck!!!

What else? Perfect sailing day today. We lost some miles to Filipe and Jeremy. But we were told that is good for the media.

Ah, there is one other strange thing. We pulled the mast out in Wellington.

Therefore you need to disconnect lots of wires coming out of the mast foot for e.g. the wind vane, the radar and the positions light. When we put the mast in again I reconnected them to the wires on the boat. But there is still one wire left in the mast and everything is working fine?!?!?!

It is sunset now. We need to cook our rice. Mowgli is still too far away.

Happy Birthday Jeremy.

    Felix & Boris,
It was great to meet you both in Wellington and with the wedding of your mum too must have been an exiting layover. I am glad the weather was fine for you both to get a good impression of the place. You guys deserved more than the loyal supporters that gathered to farewell you all.
Anne and Renee got some really good photos of the day and we will send them to mum in Germany.
I am glad the whale was friendly. I imagine monsters in the dark night could make you change your pants more than once.
Hope all continues to go well and be safe.
We will follow your progress till you are safe home!
